Arsenal have topped Manchester City in a breathtaking run to the English Premier League title. The Gunners took the lead in the table with three points after beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0.
Arsenal’s points are currently 74 in 33 matches. City’s points are 73 after playing one less match. Liverpool is in third place with 71 points after playing 32 matches.
On the same night, City played an FA Cup semi-final match. City beat Chelsea 1-0 to reach the final of the tournament.
Leandro Trossard scored the first goal for Arsenal yesterday. In the 45th minute of the match, he scored with a right-footed shot assisted by Gabriel Jesus.
The second goal was scored by Martin Odegaard in the fifth minute of extra time (90+5). This Norwegian footballer shook the opponent’s net with a great left shot.
Earlier, Arsenal were knocked out of the Champions League after losing to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. That’s why yesterday’s victory brought some relief to the Gunners’ camp.
After winning the match, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta said, ‘It was a very good comeback match. I am proud of them. We were able to return properly. We deserved to win the game and get another clean sheet.’
“Of course we were disappointed to lose against Bayern – by a narrow margin,” he added. But we have five games left and we are back on top.’
