Charros fall on their return to LMB

After an absence of almost three decades in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB), the Charros de Jalisco lived a historic night this Tuesday at the Panamericano Stadium, in Zapopan, sealing their return at home to the baseball competition with the greatest tradition in the country.

More than 10,000 spectators enjoyed the colorful ceremony that combined modernity with the roots that give pride to our land, and that framed the Inaugural Game of the 2024 Season against Sultanes de Monterrey, who won 13-7.

The launch of the first ball corresponded to two key characters for Jalisco in 2024: Yeraldine Carrión –MVP and Champion of the Mexican Softball League (LMS)– and José Luis González Íñigo, president of the club and main promoter of Charros’ return to the LMB.

The albiazul starter, Matt Minick, suffered from the attacks of the royal artillery and his work did not exceed the first third of the game. Sultanes had 10 hits and scored 7 runs in the first 3 innings – including a home run – to take an early lead on the scoreboard.

Against the current, Charros sought to get up and at the close of the fourth chapter, “El Bori” Anthony García disappeared the ball from the left, taking Maikel Serrano and Oswaldo Arcia ahead, bringing Jalisco closer and causing joy in the “Charropark” .

The pleasure of the caporales did not last long, as another 6 lines between the fifth and ninth inning came for the “Gray Ghosts”, making the slab heavier for Benjamín Gil’s team.

And although Charros thrilled with a 4-run rally at the close of the game – a product of the home run by “Chispita”, Christopher Gastélum, with Anthony García and Vimael Machín on board, and previously a double by “Vima” –, the reaction It was insufficient.

Revenge for Charros could come as soon as this Wednesday, when the series against Sultanes resumes, starting at 8:00 p.m., at the Panamericano; right-hander Frank Duncan will be the starter for Jalisco, while Kevin Kelly will do the same for Monterrey.
