A father is sentenced to life imprisonment for a heinous crime against his daughter

Between April 2019 and June 2023, the accused, living with his daughter born in 2010, while under the influence of alcohol, repeatedly violently committed sexual acts with his child and raped her at night, while the rest of the family members were sleeping.

According to the prosecutor’s office, as a result of the accused man’s illegal actions, the victim’s sexual inviolability, morality and normal physical and mental development were threatened.

In the pre-trial process, the accused did not admit his guilt, but later in the court he fully admitted his guilt, therefore the case was considered without examination of evidence.

The public prosecutor – the prosecutor of the Southern Latgale Prosecutor’s Office – asked to apply the type and extent of the punishment imposed on the accused in the court debates, so the prosecutor is satisfied with the sentence imposed by the court and does not plan to ask the court to prepare a full verdict.

On the other hand, the judgment of the other persons involved in the process can be appealed to the Latgale Regional Court.

“The consequences that can be caused by sexual violence against a child are very serious. The child’s right to safety, health and life is violated by using his body. The child’s psychological health also suffers because of such actions. Therefore, the perpetrators of the mentioned and similar crimes must be held accountable before the law and they should be dealt with with the utmost severity,” said the prosecutor of the South Latgale Prosecutor’s Office.

The prosecutor’s office points out that if there is even the slightest suspicion that a child may have suffered from sexual or other forms of violence, the State Police should be contacted immediately.
