The winner of the March presidential elections in SenegalBassirou Diomaye Faye, took up his new position this Tuesday.
It was a ceremony attended by other leaders of the region and which marked the investiture of what is already the youngest president in the entire region. Africa44 years old.
Faye He won in the first round against former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, appointed by the ruling party to try to take over from Macky Sall.
The opposition candidate capitalized around his figure the support of followers of other rivals such as the popular Ousmane Sonko, excluded from the final shortlist of candidates.
The new president has recited the traditional investiture speech, by virtue of which he “swears to faithfully fulfill” the presidential office and “scrupulously observe the provisions of the Constitution and the laws,” as well as “defend the institutions, the integrity of the territory and national independence.”
Among those invited to the event, held at the presidential palace in Dakar, were Faye’s two wives and leaders from other countries in the region, such as those of Nigeria, Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea and Guinea Bissau.
Two first ladies
Faye is the first president of Senegal polygamousan unprecedented event in this African country.
The first president’s wife elected, Marie Khone, is originally from the same town as Faye, they were married 15 years ago and have four children.

The outgoing president will remain as leader of his party, but will make it compatible with that of special envoy of the Paris Pact for People and the Planet, created to combat poverty, promote sustainable development and support vulnerable countries.
