BJP’s issue in Jalpaiguri is the Tamarind Corridor of Bangladesh – 2024-03-30 01:51:27

‘Bangladesh’ is the issue of BJP’s vote campaign in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal in India’s Lok Sabha elections. Last time BJP’s campaign issue was Haldibari-Chilahati railway connecting with Bangladesh. This year’s issue is Bangladesh’s Tamarind Corridor.

The India-Bangladesh Haldibari-Chilahati railway, which has been closed since 1965, has been a long-standing demand. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, BJP candidate Jayantkumar Roy’s campaign issue was to launch a railway between India and Bangladesh on the Haldibari-Chilahati route. He implemented it by winning the vote and becoming an MP. Mithali Express is running from New Jalpaiguri to Dhaka. This time, the main issue of the BJP candidate is to open the Tamarind Corridor from India to Bangladesh. Jayantkumar Roy claims that the distance from Jalpaiguri to Kolkata will be reduced a lot if Tentulia Corridor is completed.

Local people hope that he will keep his word if he wins the election again. Tetuliya Corridor will be launched between India and Bangladesh.

Tentulia corridor starts from Chaulhati border of Rajganj block of Jalpaiguri district on India-Bangladesh border. This corridor will connect to Chopra in North Dinajpur district of India. There will be a 4.2 kilometer road through Tentulia upazila of Bangladesh. If this corridor is implemented, the distance from Northeast India to Kolkata will decrease. Now the distance from Jalpaiguri to Kolkata is 576 km. If this corridor becomes operational, it will be 388 km.

Jayant Roy said, ‘Discussions are going on between India and Bangladesh on the Tamarind Corridor. Now if the railway can be made through the Tangulia Corridor of Bangladesh, that discussion is also going on. As the distance from Kolkata to Jalpaiguri will be reduced, time will also be saved. Communication with Northeast India will be easier.’
