Liene and Sofie in cross battles of The voice van Vlaanderen: “It may be that the coach has no one left for live shows” (Showbiz and culture)

After blind auditions, knockouts and battles, a new term will be added to the dictionary of The Voice of Flanders on Friday. We are introduced to the cross battles, a brand new round in which for the first time the coaches have no say in who goes to the live shows.

“The game is being played harder than ever.” Coach Koen Wauters talks about the cross battles, the latest round in The Voice of Flanders. The teams will compete against each other for the first time. The coaches take turns challenging each other. Koen, Natalia, Jan and Mathieu must therefore use their best tactics to determine who they will put forward with their own song.

The fate of the candidates is then no longer in the hands of their own coach. They may still hand out a few compliments, but who will advance to the live shows will be determined by ‘small musical Flanders’. The jury consists of the two coaches who are not involved in that specific battle and a group of people who are involved with music professionally or in their spare time. Recognizable among those voters: The voice kids coach Coely, Billie Leyers and Berre. It could therefore be that a coach wins every cross battle and can take his six remaining talents to the live shows. The reverse is also possible. A few wrong choices or bad luck and maybe there is no one left in the team of Koen, Natalia, Jan or Mathieu. Laura Tesoro is also still hopping around backstage. As the fifth coach, she can still pick up dropouts.

Who should sing to whom will therefore remain a surprise for a while. But there are two Limburg singers who have to take the microphone in this first (of two) episode of the cross battles. Sofie Ertryckx is the only woman in Jan Paternoster’s team. He puts Hasselt’s Friday forward with What’s a woman by Vaya Con Dios. “I really want to go to the live shows. It’s make or break,” says Sofie combatively.

Liene Cuyx has to defend the honor of team Mathieu. The 19-year-old from Kortessem does this with Take me to church by Hozier, but she does not feel really confident. “I’m very scared. I think I’m going to lie down now.”(nco)
