Armed Forces: Fund of 6-7 million euros per year for those who take part in missions

Emergency aid, in the form of an allowance, will be received by the officers of the Armed Forces, in addition to the increases provided for in the budget and in the new salary that came into force on January 1, 2024. The specific income supports, however, will not be horizontal, but will concern only those who take part in missions. According to information, the total amount for these benefits will move to 6-7 million euros per year. At this time, the Ministries of Defense and National Economy and Finance are in discussions with the aim of deciding the final amount and the way it will be paid, as well as the start time of its payment, which is expected in the near future.

According to information, the financial staff has informed the Ministry of Defense about the budgetary area of ​​6-7 million euros per year, in addition to the increases and other allowances that have already been voted.

Also, the same sources state that these allowances will concern all Corps and executives, as long as they take part in missions.

The government is looking for ways and fiscal space to proceed with increases in the Armed Forces and, more generally, in the enlisted men, as there has been a tendency for executives to flee, mainly from the Navy.

On the other hand, beyond the budget margins, sources close to the discussions say that with the new pay scale, along with the allowances instituted, the average increase in the Armed Forces was higher than the average increase in public sector salaries.

For example, in addition to the general increase, interventions were made in two more allowances, namely that of the liability allowance (from 39 to 715 euros) and special working conditions (from 150 to 500 euros for singles and up to 630 euros with children).

Corresponding adjustments were made to the security forces (smaller amounts), while there was an adjustment of the allowance of the executives of the Armed Forces and the Hellenic Coast Guard, as well as the Hellenic Police and the Fire Brigade.
