9 ‘legendary’ brands that will never be forgotten in the hearts of Vietnamese people

In the 90s of the last century, any family was familiar with these products.

Co Ba soap

Miss Ba soap dates back to 1932, when a famous businessman in Cochinchina opened a factory, named Vietnamese Soap. He used the image of “Miss Ba”, a typical Southern girl, as an ambassador for the product.

When it first came to market, this product was a hit and was trusted by the whole country. It is even widely used in Laos and Cambodia, exported to Hong Kong and some other countries. However, after a while, when entering into a joint venture with P&G group, Co Ba Soap had to stop operating.

Recently, Phuong Dong Production and Trading Joint Stock Company decided to revive this brand. The product is present in some supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City, but the sales volume is not much.

However, at that period, Truc Bach beer was an expensive luxury item, beyond people’s ability to consume, so production had to stop. In 2010, Habeco re-exported Truc Bach beer.

Lan Hao

Lan Hao cosmetics once took the cosmetics industry by storm. This product is famous throughout Southeast Asia.

Da Lan toothpaste

Da Lan toothpaste was a familiar product in every household around 1993-1994. But then, owner Trinh Thanh Nhon sold Da Lan to Colgate Palmolive for 3 million USD.

In 2009, Da Lan was brought back to the Vietnamese market by Mr. Nhon himself, and is owned by the International Cosmetic Chemical Company (ICC).

Hynos toothpaste

Hynos toothpaste is a familiar product to people born and raised in the 20th century.

In 2007, P/S Joint Stock Company began to restore Hynos, a product sold in rural areas but with low sales. Currently, the company has brought Hynos to urban areas and sells it at supermarkets. However, this brand is still not as outstanding as it was in its previous heyday.

High gold star

Around the 90s of the last century, every family had a box of gold stars. This product is highly appreciated by the international e-commerce customer community. On eBay, a box of Cao Sao Vang is sold for 50,000-70,000 VND, 30 times more expensive than the original price in Vietnam.

Currently, this product is still popular. At shopping websites like eBay or Amazon. The seller’s shopping cart always updates the status of goods as low stock (very little left) or out of stock (out of stock).

Miliket paper noodles

This type of noodle was once known as the king of instant noodles, with wide coverage. Miliket of Colusa Food Joint Stock Company – MIIKET, formerly known as Colusa Food Enterprise and Miliket Food Enterprise, has almost absolute market share.

This is a familiar instant noodle for many generations of Vietnamese people. Up to now, Miliket is still favored by a part of Vietnamese consumers.

Thong Nhat Match

Thong Nhat Matches used to be popular throughout the country when lighters were not yet popular. The matchbox has a traditional logo with a white dove, below the large words “Thong Nhat Matches” running horizontally, making it extremely familiar to Vietnamese families. To date, this product is still very popular across the country.
