State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said that eight and a half thousand post offices will be converted into ‘smart service points’.
Pointing out that work is going on to increase the multi-dimensional services and transform the post office into a hub of massive employment for the youth through smart service services under PPP, he said that smart service points have already been launched in Koira, Khulna. Four more post offices will be converted into smart service points this month and 500 more next month. Eight and a half thousand post offices in the country will be converted into smart service points gradually.
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of Barisal GPO building built at a cost of Tk 16 crore on ‘Smart Platform’ on Friday (March 22).
The state minister pointed out that smart post offices are essential for smart Bangladesh and said that the government is determined to ensure smart postal services at the doorsteps of every people in the country, including remote areas, by using the vast network of post offices, huge infrastructure and manpower. In today’s age of digital technology, every person-to-person communication can be done by the postal department. This organization knows every person in every corner of the country.
He said, in addition to giving importance to building G-to-G postal services and ecosystems, the mentality of creating smart capabilities and changing existing mindsets, adoption of smart technology and the ability to use smart technology should be created.
Palak said that under the visionary and wise leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina since 2009 and the guidance of eminent computer scientist Sajib Ahmed Wazed Joy, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Information and Communication Technology, the successful implementation of information technology has been completed in the country in 2021. The journey to establish Bangabandhu’s cherished dream of Sonar Bangla has begun through the construction of Smart Bangladesh announced by the Prime Minister on the strong foundation of Digital Bangladesh. The State Minister pointed out that the role of the Department of Posts is immense in establishing a knowledge-based smart society.
Junaid Ahmed Palak said that the era of exchanging letters at the personal level has ended due to the impact of digitization, but the post office will be the most reliable service organization for transporting goods. If the post office can be converted from mail delivery service to service delivery service, the institution will be able to make a great contribution to the country’s economy. He promised to increase the number of night post offices in Barisal.
