800 kg of beef in Mirsrai! – 2024-03-22 06:48:01

Beef is sold at 550 to 700 taka in different parts of the country including Dhaka, but the picture is different in Mirsarai Upazila of Chittagong. Beef (boneless) is sold at Tk 900 per kg. And it is being sold with bones for 800 taka. Consumers are expressing anger about this.

It has been found that in Baradarogahat, Bartakia, Mitachara, Mirsrai Sadar, Abutorab, Zorarganj and Bariyarhat municipal markets of the upazila, boneless meat is being sold at Tk 850-900 per kg. It is being sold with bones for 800 taka. Beef has gone beyond the affordability of many people.

Mubarak Hossain, a resident of ward number 7 of Mirsrai municipality said, ‘I bought beef for 900 taka from Bartakia market. But in other places it is being sold at a lower price. Businessmen are cutting people’s pockets like themselves.’

Nurus Salam of Bagachtar area who came to Baradarogahat market to buy beef said, ‘I hear that the price of beef has decreased in different parts of the country. Selling at 600-650 Tk. But the picture here is different. There is no meat here below 850-900 taka. Traders did not reduce prices even in Ramadan.

Nur Hossain, owner of Baratakia Nur Hossain Meat Bitan, said, ‘Cow prices, transportation costs, food prices have increased. Cows have to be bought at high prices. Slaughter cost, staff cost, shop rent increased after purchase of cow. Therefore, if you don’t sell it for 900 rupees, you won’t like it.’
