79 fishermen including 3 boats from Bangladesh have been captured by the Indian Coast Guard. They were arrested on charges of illegal fishing in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), Indian media The Hindu reported.

According to the news, on November 15 and 16, the Indian Coast Guard detained these Bangladeshi boats and fishermen from the international maritime border area in the northern part of the Bay of Bengal. Indian authorities have claimed that Bangladeshi boats were fishing in Indian waters.

During the operation, none of the fishermen could show a valid license to fish in Indian waters. Fishing gear and freshly caught fish were also found on the boats, which was cited as evidence of illegal fishing.
