70 thousand perform the evening and Tarawih prayers in Al-Aqsa Mosque

Jerusalem – Thousands of citizens performed the evening and Tarawih prayers inside Al-Aqsa Mosque, yesterday, Thursday, despite the restrictions of the Israeli occupation.

The Islamic Endowments Department in Jerusalem said that about 70,000 citizens performed the Isha and Tarawih prayers inside Al-Aqsa Mosque, on the fourth day of the holy month of Ramadan.

Local sources reported that the Israeli occupation forces deployed military checkpoints in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, prevented a number of young men from entering to pray in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and turned the Holy City into a military barracks on the eve of the first Friday of the month of Ramadan.

The occupation authorities had installed iron barriers at the doors of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, specifically at the doors of: King Faisal, Al-Ghawanmeh, and Al-Hadid.

The head of the Jerusalem Committee for Combating Judaization, Nasser al-Hadmi, said that these doors are a new type of composite barriers, with a wide base on the ground that is difficult to move from its place due to people crowding over it, in addition to placing cages on the doors to protect the soldiers present, and trying to separate them from the worshipers.

Al-Hidmi pointed out that the occupation seeks to impose more control on the entry of worshipers, control the roads, and prevent freedom of worship and the normal practice of rituals in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In a statement, the Ministry condemned the occupation’s installation of iron barriers in an attempt to change the existing historical, legal and political reality on the Temple Mount.

It considered these measures to be a flagrant violation of international law and the obligations of the occupying power towards places of worship and the freedom of citizens’ access to them, and a continuing assault on the powers of the Jerusalem Endowments Administration and the affairs of the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and Holy Sanctities, which has exclusive jurisdiction to manage the affairs of the Holy Mosque.

Jordan also condemned the installation by the Israeli occupation authorities of iron barriers on three of the doors of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The official spokesman for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Sufyan Al-Qudah, warned that the Israeli occupation authorities would continue to impose their measures aimed at imposing control on the entry of worshipers to the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, stressing the necessity of ensuring free and unrestricted access to the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque as it is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims in its entire area of 144 dunams.
