Decathlon is opening its 6th store in Austria next week in the PlusCity in Pasching near Linz. Competitions and challenges await customers on the first two days of sales.
Vienna/Vösendorf (OTS) – The sporting goods manufacturer and retailer Decathlon is expanding its presence in Austria and is now opening its first branch in the west of the country. On June 28, the new store, the sixth in Austria, will open its doors in the PlusCity shopping center in Pasching near the Upper Austrian capital Linz and will offer equipment, clothing and accessories for around 70 different sports just in time for the start of the big summer holidays.We are very pleased to be able to bring our mission of making sport in all its emotions tangible to the west of Austria

First Decathlon branch in western Austria
In a spacious sales area of around 3,000 square meters on three levels, Decathlon offers a wide range of sporting goods – from fitness and outdoor to water and cycling sports and team sports. The store is not only the first in Austria with the new brand identity, but also has another special feature: its own outdoor area, which is used as a showroom for camping equipment and the like. Eagle explained: “PlusCity is an ideal location to serve sports enthusiasts in the west of the country. We are delighted to be able to expand our presence in Austria so quickly by opening another branch within just a few months.
“ Only in autumn last year, Decathlon opened its fifth location in Austria in the heart of Vienna, in the 1100 Columbus shopping centre near the main train station.
Modern checkouts and top advice from sports professionals
The team in the new branch in Pasching consists of 22 members from a total of ten different nations, led by store leader Tomica Kolenko. Eagle further: “The team has been training in other Decathlon stores since May to acquire the necessary skills and to be able to respond optimally to the needs of customers in the new store right from the start.
“ In addition to the best advice, Decathlon is also focusing on a quick and uncomplicated checkout with RFID technology in the new store: Each product is provided with an RFID tag that stores the product name and price. Special scanners are installed in the checkout area that automatically record the information and transmit it to the cash register system without having to scan individual barcodes. And if you can’t find what you’re looking for in the store, you can use the Click & Collect service and have the item you want ordered directly in the store.
Opening ceremony with sporting challenges and competitions
A colorful supporting program awaits children, young people and adults at the opening on June 28 and 29. Mascot DECATONI will be present at the opening on Friday and Saturday, and visitors can also try out sports equipment in small challenges and win lots of instant prizes.
