Kamala Harris or even Michelle Obama are being considered as possible names to replace Biden among the Democrats. Do you think these are realistic options?
Jiří Pehe: Michelle Obama would probably be the best candidate because according to all the polls she would beat Trump handily. But she refuses, the last time she said that the presidency is not something she wants, it doesn’t seem like she’s willing to accept it even as a certain sacrifice, so you have to count on the fact that she won’t go for it and the other candidates are of course then whiten more or less. First of all, there is Kamala Harris, who is, of course, unpopular, and even if the polls show that she also has equal chances with Trump, the whole party would have to unite behind her. Then, of course, there are some other candidates that are being talked about, like California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is very charismatic and has often been mentioned as a possible replacement for Biden, and then there are several state governors that are in the so-called swing states , where it is decided who will be the president, and there is mainly talk about Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer or Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro, but of course at this moment it is difficult to predict whether they would be able to jump on that train.
Michael Žantovsky: I am convinced that it is too late to change the candidate and she would not have much hope of success. In my opinion, Michelle Obama is perhaps the only person among the Democrats who is widely known, respected and popular enough to win the election.
