When the kidneys fail to remove uric acid effectively, it builds up in the blood, causing hard crystals to form in the joints, which can be painful. However, yoga helps improve blood circulation, kidney function, and helps eliminate uric acid through urine.
Additionally, yoga improves overall physical and mental well-being, helps maintain a healthy weight and reduces stress, both of which are important in managing uric acid levels in the blood.
The following yoga movements to lower uric acid are reported by Health Shots, Friday (28/6/2024).
Yoga Movements to Reduce Uric Acid Naturally
1. Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)
Cobra pose stretches the spine, chest, and shoulders, stimulates the abdominal organs and improves digestion. It also helps relieve stress and fatigue, which can contribute to gout symptoms.
You can start by lying on your stomach, spread your legs, and place your palms under your shoulders. Inhale and lift your chest off the mat, keeping your elbows slightly bent and your shoulders away from your ears. Hold this pose for a few breaths, then exhale while slowly releasing back onto the mat.
2. Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Spinal Twist)
This movement stimulates the digestive organs, kidneys and liver, helping detoxification and lowering uric acid levels. Sit with your legs straight and relax your whole body. Now, bend your left leg and place your left foot near your right buttocks.
Cross your right leg over your left thigh and place it on the floor next to your left thigh. Rotate your body to the right, placing your left elbow on the outside of your right knee. Hold this pose while inhaling to lengthen the spine and exhaling to deepen the twist. Repeat on the other side.
