As the impacts of global climate change increase, the majority of workers (55%) would prefer to be in an industry with a good green reputation, rather than one perceived as harmful (14%), according to the Business Transformation study ManpowerGroup Sustainable.
A company’s sustainable and environmentally friendly actions can influence whether or not a candidate accepts to work for a company. In this sense, the study detected that 62% of workers say that they investigate the environmental reputation of an organization and approximately a third (35%) say that this influences their decision to accept or reject a job offer.
Progress in environmental matters is a new factor in the job search process; workers evaluate a job opportunity taking into account the participation of companies in concrete actions that mitigate the advance of climate change, and not with those that are still seen. as harmful to the environment, indicated Fernando Bermúdez, director of Corporate Relations.
This trend is stronger among younger workers, especially Generation Z, as 75% say they will investigate companies’ environmental reputation and nearly half (46%) say it will influence their likelihood of choosing an employer.
Unlike older generations of workers, younger workers, Millennials and Centennials, They observe phenomena such as lack of water, high temperatures and poor air quality as problems in which companies must assume their responsibility and actively participate to resolve them, said Bermúdez.
Among the report’s findings was that organizations that offer sustainable products and services can increase their market share, but those that stand out for their green efforts also attract top talent and a broader range of investors.
For years, sustainability has been a basic element of company messages and policy makers’ speeches, element that today people translate into an awareness of the environmental impact in their activitiesthat is, how much I am contributing to climate change in my daily work.
Under these factors, more than 60% of young employees believe that it would have a positive impact in the future if companies began to implement policies and actions that take care of the environment, while generating new opportunities, greater job satisfaction, possibility professional development and more collaboration.
“The environmental reputation of an organization is becoming more important and is the one that can most influence workers’ job offer decisions.just as it is today in the consumption of more ecological products and services,” said Bermúdez.
