News from Angola – A 52-year-old peasant was killed by a lion when he was leaving the field with two friends. The article appears in the 26th edition of Jornal de Angola (JA).
The case happened on October 24th, around 9 pm, in the province of Cuando Cubando, commune of Savate, located 100 km from the headquarters of the municipality of Cuangar.
According to witnesses, everything happened when the deceased “was leaving the field, in the company of two friends, at around 9 pm. The victim and his companions even tried to scare the animal away with machetes, which they always carried to protect themselves from possible attacks, but the hungry lion, did not feel intimidated and attacked him, while his friends ran away to look for help”, says the article signed by journalist Lourenço Bule.
“When they returned with more peasants, equipped with machetes, spears and sticks, the lion had already fled and they found the farmer seriously injured.
