5 people died and 44 people were injured, 10 of them seriously, in the fire that broke out in Diyarbakır and Mardin.

The stubble fire that broke out in the region between Diyarbakır’s Çınar district and Mardin’s Mazıdağı district caused a disaster when it spread to residential areas. The flames were brought under control after long efforts of the teams. Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca announced that 5 people lost their lives.

THE INTENSE OF THE FLAMES INCREASED DUE TO THE WIND

The stubble fire, which started at night, grew under the influence of the wind. AFAD, Forest Management Directorate, fire brigade and 112 Emergency Health teams were dispatched from Diyarbakır and Mardin as well as surrounding provinces to intervene in the fire.

THE WOUNDED WERE REFERRED TO REGIONAL HOSPITALS

While efforts to extinguish the fire continued, many injured people were taken to Çınar State Hospital and hospitals in the city center for treatment.

AUTHORITIES FLOODED TO THE REGION

Diyarbakır Governor Ali İhsan Su, Çınar District Governor Muhammed Fatih Günlü and Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Selçuk Yıldırım came to the fire area in Çınar district and inspected.

Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca, in his post on his social media account, said, “In the fire that occurred in Köksalan neighborhood and Yazçiçi village of Diyarbakır’s Çınar district and Yücebağ and Yetkinler villages of Mardin’s Mazıdağı district, 5 people lost their lives and 44 people were affected by the fire, 10 of them seriously. “We lost 3 lives in Diyarbakır and 2 in Mardin. 35 Ambulances and 7 UMKE Teams were assigned to the incident. I wish God’s mercy to those who lost their lives, and I offer my condolences to the injured.”

MINISTER OF INTERIOR SHARED THE LATEST SITUATION ON YERLIKAYA

Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya stated that the fire was under control in his post on his social media account and said, “The fire, which started as a stubble and cover fire in Köksalan Rural District of Çınar district of Diyarbakır province at 22.15 and affected Yazçiçi, Bağrık and Ağaçsever neighborhoods with the force of the wind, broke out in Mardin Mazıdağı. district, towards Yücebağ, Şenyuva and Yetkinler neighborhoods, but it was completely taken under control as a result of the intense work of our teams and citizens. Cooling efforts are continuing. Unfortunately, 3 of our citizens in Diyarbakır, 2 of our citizens in Mardin lost their lives in the fire, and 11 of our citizens in Diyarbakır. “In Mardin, 18 of our citizens were injured. The treatment of our injured people continues. I wish God’s mercy to our deceased citizens and a speedy recovery to our injured people.”
