GAZA Israeli-Palestinian Conflict It seems to be an eternal conflict, which began with the founding of the state of Israel in 1948 until now.

The war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, which began on October 7, 2023 until now, is actually inseparable from the remnants of past conflicts that have never been resolved.

Hamas—part of the Palestinian resistance group—which rules the Gaza Strip has fought several major wars with Israel and previously eased through partial ceasefires.

Despite the series of Hamas-Israel conflicts, there have been at least a few ceasefires—involving both Israelis and Palestinians—that have been successful.

5 Israeli-Palestinian Ceasefires That Have Been Realized

1. Armistice Agreement of 1949

Although this involved ceasefires between Israel and Arab states (Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon) following the 1948-1949 Arab-Israeli War, it also included several ceasefires with Palestinian militia groups.

2. 1994 Ceasefire (Gaza-Jericho Agreement)

The ceasefire was part of an agreement between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) that provided for Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank city of Jericho.

3. 2005 Ceasefire (Gaza Disengagement)

Although not a formal ceasefire, Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, ending direct occupation and handing over control to the Palestinians.

It was hoped that this would reduce armed conflict, although violence often broke out after the withdrawal.
