1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

In the first scene, Joel (Jim Carrey) seems to make a spontaneous decision to take a train to Montauk, where he meets a friendly foreign woman named Clementine (Kate Winslet).

As it turns out, Joel and Clementine are not strangers. They actually used to date, but each had special treatment to erase the memories of their relationship. However, there is one memory that remains, namely Joel and Clementine’s promise to meet in Montauk.

2. Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire begins by showing a title card asking, “Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 million rupees. How did he do it? A: He cheated. B: He was lucky. C: He was a genius.” Viewers are then shown that Jamal (Dev Patel) is in the hot seat of a game show, ready to win big.

3. Fight Club

The surprise occurs when the end of the film reveals that it was the Narrator who turned the gun on himself.

4. Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction is famous for its non-sequential story, the first scene shows a pair of robbers planning a robbery at a restaurant before taking action.

And the robbery at the same restaurant from the first scene ends up being the final scene of the film.

5. The Sixth Sense

The film opens with therapist Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) being shot by a former patient who broke into his home. Malcolm appears to survive the situation, albeit shaken up, and the film continues.

One of the greatest twists in cinema history, the ending of the film shows that Malcolm is actually dead.
