The reason is, Prince Hisahito is the first adult male in the Royal Family. Empire of Japan after nearly four decades. While his father, Crown Prince Akishino is the last adult male in the family.

Hisahito is the youngest member of the Japanese Imperial Family, which consists of 17 members, of which only four are male. He will be second in line to the throne after his father, as the current Emperor of Japan, Emperor Naruhito, has a daughter, Princess Aiko.

He also became the first imperial member to come of age under Japan’s revised civil code, where previously the age of majority for Japanese citizens was 20, under this policy it is 18.
