Tripoli, March 11, 2024 AD (Al-Anbaa Al-Libya) – Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, met today, Monday, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tripoli, with the Minister of Economy and Trade, the Undersecretary, and the Economic and Security Committee. To monitor the availability of basic commodities and control their prices on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
During the meeting, the Minister of Economy and Trade, Muhammad Al-Hawaij, gave a briefing in which he explained that basic commodities are available in all regions, confirming the availability of (45) basic commodities at reasonable prices, and indicated that work is continuing to follow up on supplying companies and local factories to ensure the quantities supplied or manufactured, their distribution mechanism, and supply prices. And the available profit margin, stressing that coordination is continuing with the Municipal Guard and various law enforcement agencies regarding eliminating price speculation.
For his part, Al-Dabaiba stressed the importance of continuous monitoring of supplies of basic commodities, monitoring the productivity of local factories, comparing them with the prices offered, and working to ensure the provision of basic commodities during the holy month of Ramadan.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy confirmed during the meeting that prices during this period are witnessing acceptable moderation, and that the goods supplied and being supplied are sufficient to cover the local market, and that the Ministry is working continuously to eliminate monopoly.
The Undersecretary explained that the value of private sector allocations during the first quarter of this year amounted to (729 million dinars), of which (459 million) were allocated to provide basic goods.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Dabaiba stressed the need to activate the private sector in the field of vegetable and meat trade, which is controlled by other nationalities without proper regulatory procedures, and directed the Economic Security Committee and the Municipal Guard Service to follow up on the goods that were supported by the government with the aim of stabilizing the market and monitoring their sale according to the approved prices.
