40th SADC summit officially opened

The 40th ordinary summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) was opened this Monday (17), by Filipe Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique.

Filipe Nyusi, who chairs the summit commemorating the organization’s 40th anniversary, also assumes the organization’s rotating Presidency.

The Southern African Development Community summit is held under the theme “SADC 40 years: Building Peace and Security, Promoting Development and Resilience in the Face of Global Challenges”.

For the first time in the history of the regional organization, its summit is held via a video conference system, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which is ravaging the world.

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, also participates in this summit, which brings together heads of State and Government from the Southern region of the continent.
