JAKARTA Israel reported to have counterattacked against Iran on Friday (19/4/2024). This happened after Tehran launched hundreds of drone and missile attacks on the territory of the Jewish state on Sunday (14/4/2024).

This mutual attack action was triggered by an airstrike that leveled the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, on April 1 2024—killing seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) officers including two senior generals.

Iran’s attack on Israel for the first time resulted in no casualties. Likewise with Israel’s counterattack against Iran.

1. What Happened in Iran?

News agency IRNA, Iran’s state-run agency reported anti-aircraft activation at the 8th Shekhari Air Base in Esfahan while claiming that the situation was normal.

Meanwhile, site flightradar24.com showed that for several hours after the incident, Iran’s air traffic was lower than usual.

Iranian officials have not officially confirmed the attack was carried out by Israel and have only said Esfahan’s air defenses had targeted several “microbirds and suspicious objects”.

United States officials confirmed to ABC News that three missiles were fired from Israeli warplanes outside Iran.

“Israel targeted an air defense radar site near Esfahan that is part of the protection of the Natanz nuclear facility,” an official said.

“The first assessment is that the attack destroyed the site, but the assessment has not yet been completed,” the official continued.
