4 people died due to lightning and drowning in Sherpur –

A total of four people died in Sherpur, including two sisters who were struck by lightning and drowned in water. The incident took place in Nakla, Nalitabari and Sadar upazilas on Saturday (31 May). The two who died due to lightning are Samir Uddin Samu (57) and Hajera Khatun (55).

The deceased is the son of Ramzan Ali of West Barapagla village of Talki union of Samu Nakla upazila. He is a farmer by profession.

According to family sources, when it started raining heavily in the afternoon, Samu went to fetch cows from the field near the house. Meanwhile, Samu had a heart attack due to the loud sound of lightning. Later, family members and local residents rescued him and took him to Nakla Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

And Hajera Khatun is the wife of Khorshed Alam of Manikkura village in Kakarkandi union of Nalitabari.

According to police and local sources, Hajera Khatun went to a madrasa in Haji Mor area to fetch her granddaughter around 12:30 pm on Saturday. On his way back, he died on the spot due to a sudden lightning strike. But the granddaughter who was with her survived.

Nakla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibur Rahman and Talki Union Parishad Chairman Mozaffar Mohiuddin Bulbul confirmed the death of farmer Samur due to lightning.

And Nalitabari police station officer-in-charge (OC) Sohel Rana said that a case of wrongful death has been registered regarding the death of Hajera Khatun.

On the other hand, the names of the two sisters who died in the water of the road in Sherpur Sadar Upazila are Sheela and Neela. They are Char Namapara rickshaw driver of Chotjhau of Lachmanpur Union of Sherpur Sadar Upazila. Daughter of Abdus Salam. They are 12 years old.

According to local sources, when it started raining around 12:30 pm on Saturday, the two sisters went to take a bath in the water accumulated in the nearby pool. Meanwhile, the twins drowned in the water. Later, the relatives recovered the bodies of the other two children screaming.
