JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan say, food estate which was built 3 years ago in Humbang Hasundutan, North Sumatra, is ready to enter the harvest season. Luhut said that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will carry out harvest The first food estate project built 3 years ago together with the Herbal and Horticulture Science Technology Park (TSTH).

“Yesterday I visited the food estate and also the research center (TSTH), I am very happy because the President will harvest at the food estate, after 3 years of working on it,” said Luhut quoting an official upload on his official Instagram account, Tuesday (16/7/2024).

Furthermore, Luhut said that several agricultural commodities that will be harvested in the food estate project in Humbang Hasundutan include potatoes, garlic, chilies, and cabbage.

According to data from the Humbahas Regency Government, the total production of the Humbang Hasundutan Regency Food Estate has reached 392 tons of potatoes and 165 tons of shallots, 294 tons of cabbage, 271 tons of chili, 93 tons of corn, 26 tons of tomatoes, and 13 tons of garlic.

On a different occasion, Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman revealed that the Humbahas Food Estate has been cultivated since 2022 and focuses on horticultural crops such as shallots, garlic, potatoes, cabbage, and chilies. In June 2023, the total accumulated planting area in the Humbahas Food Estate had reached 482.84 hectares.

Minister of Agriculture Amran views the development of Food Estate in Humbahas positively. He believes that with the cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment and the Humbahas Regional Government, the Food Estate program will be successful.

“God willing, in the third year we will be self-sufficient. In the first year we can reduce imports, in the second year production will improve, and in the third year at the latest we will be self-sufficient,” concluded Amran.
