According to this data, of the 12,121 PPDS students working in 28 Vertical Hospitals, 22.4 percent experienced symptoms of depression.
So, what causes PPDS students to experience depression? Here’s the review.
1. Not paid
Chairman of JDN (Junior Doctors Network) Indonesia, Dr Tommy Dharmawan, SpBTKV, said that one of the factors causing depression in PPDS students was not being paid. They work but don’t get an income so they don’t have any income and are stressed.
“Why is this salary so important? “Because these PPDS are in the adult age range, where on average they are 30, already married, so yes they do need money for their daily lives,” said Tommy in an online media meeting with the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI). , Friday (19/4/2024).
Tommy explained that most PPDS students around the world receive salaries from the hospitals where they work. For example, in Malaysia, prospective specialist doctors are paid a nominal salary of around IDR 15 million. Meanwhile, in Singapore PPDS participants are paid 2,650 Singapore dollars.
However, in Indonesia PPDS students do not receive any salary at all from the hospital where they work.
“Indonesia is the only country in the world that does not provide salaries for PPDS. “So, this issue must have a solution, not just an issue,” explained Tommy.
2. Heavy Workload
The second problem that makes PPDS students stressed is the heavy workload. According to Tommy, their workload should be reduced.
“Why? Because in the world there are already working hour regulations for doctors. “Especially for PPDS, working hours must be limited to less than 80 hours per week,” he explained.
