It was determined that the three people who lost their lives in the fire were Hilmi Coşkunöz (40), Mesut Coşkunöz (38) and Mine Elmas (35), who lived in the region.
Elban: “4 people were detained”
Coming to the fire area, Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban inspected the area and received information from the officials.
Governor Elban made a statement following his investigations and said:
“Today, around 12:00, our forest fire started in the Alaçatı Ovacık area of Çeşme district. While one of our citizens was working in the garden, a fire spread to the grassy area and started to spread very quickly due to the very windy area. 4 planes, 6 helicopters, 30 water trucks, dozers, fire department, gendarmerie, AFAD and UMKE teams intervened very quickly in the area. The fire was taken under control and extinguished as of 14:30. In the meantime, there were two settlements that the fire could threaten. One of them is the two large summer housing estates on our left. Precautions were taken quickly to prevent the fire from reaching there and they were evacuated. On the other hand, 8 of our citizens are living in 4 houses right next to us. They had all left their houses anyway. Our gendarmerie and other teams quickly evacuated 5 of our citizens, but when our teams got there, three of our citizens had left their houses and fled to the field. Although our teams searched and followed, the other citizens did not know where they went in the field. “Unfortunately, they could not be reached for clarification. After the fire was completely extinguished, we determined that three of our citizens had lost their lives.”
Governor Elban stated that detentions were made within the scope of the investigation into the fire and said, “The four people who were working and caused the fire were detained by our gendarmerie.”
The bodies were removed
After the fire was completely extinguished in the area, crime scene investigation teams found the bodies of the citizens who lost their lives in the fire. Following the prosecutor’s examination, the bodies were sent to forensic medicine.
