27 killed in terrorist attack on Iranian security forces – 2024-04-05 09:18:24

At least 27 people, including 11 members of the security forces, were killed in a militant attack on the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan. The country’s state media reported on Thursday (April 4) that suspected Sunni Muslim militants carried out the attack. British news agency Reuters reported this news.

State TV also reported clashes between the Jaish al-Adl group and security forces in the towns of Chabahar and Rask overnight. At least 10 people were injured in the clashes in the mainly impoverished Sunni Muslim region.

Deputy Interior Minister Majid Mirahmadi told Rashtriya TV that the militants were in the operation to capture the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guard in Chabahar and Rask.

Jais Al Adal said they want rights and a better living environment for the minority Baluchi tribe in Shia-dominated Iran. They have claimed responsibility for several attacks on Iranian security forces in Sistan-Baluchistan in recent years.

The border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan has long been a clash between Iranian security forces and Sunni militants and drug traffickers. The area is one of the transit routes for drug trafficking from Afghanistan to the west and elsewhere.

In December, at least 11 security personnel were killed in a militant attack on a police station in the town of Rusk.
