23 tons of food collected in Valledupar

The Alimentatón 2025, promoted by the Social Pastoral of the Diocese of Valledupar, exceeded the previous year’s goals by achieving the collection of 23 tons of food, consolidating itself as one of the most important solidarity campaigns in the region.

Priest Jesús Torres, president of the Social Pastoral, celebrated the results and highlighted the commitment of the Vallenato community. “We wanted to reach 30 tons, but we doubled what we did last year and that is a great victory. Beyond the numbers, the most valuable thing is the social sensitivity that we have managed to awaken,” he expressed.

The day had the support of more than 400 volunteers, including lay people from different parishes and movements of the Church, who accompanied the collection activities in shopping centers and other strategic points in the city.

“The parishes put on the t-shirt. Even at the Éxito Centro they brought a boy who played the accordion and girls dressed as pyloneras to motivate people to donate. It was a wonderful experience,” said the priest.

For three days, the Food Bank received and organized donations until late at night, while in shopping centers the campaign extended until six in the afternoon. “We are tired, but it is that tiredness that produces joy, the fruit of a job well done,” added Father Torres.

The Diocese Food Bank, which has been in operation for six years, distributes around 70 tons of products monthly to vulnerable families, community kitchens and allied foundations.
