Kwanza notes from the 2012 Series have officially ceased to be valid and are out of circulation as a means of payment in the country since the first day of this year, following a scheduling criterion from the National Bank of Angola (BNA).
The notes of 200, 500, one thousand, two thousand and five thousand kwanzas, from the year 2012, cohabited with those from the 2020 Series, until the last day of the previous year.
According to the schedule of the National Bank of Angola, since the first day of January, notes from the 2012 Series are no longer accepted in current transactions, however, from that date to June 30th of this year, they can be deposited in bank accounts, with commercial banks, continuing to belong to their owners.
According to the BNA, from July 1, 2022 until December 31, 2026, they can only be exchanged at the National Bank of Angola and its regional offices.
Commercial banks will, in turn, receive deposits of notes from the 2012 Series, and withdrawals will be from the 2020 Series.
