There are around 2 thousand families in Ede who have been in the cold since yesterday afternoon due to problems with district heating. The Ede heat company is now busy increasing the heat supply. The cause of the malfunction is unknown.
Houses in the city of Gelderland that rely on district heating receive hot water through a network of underground pipes. That water is heated with sustainable heat sources. The network is made up of two parts: one part transports water at high pressure through the pipes, the second part ensures the distribution of heat between homes. The system makes a methane gas central heating system superfluous.
Cold water
“It’s still 20 degrees in the house, but the water is cold,” said a resident in Omroep Gelderland. “We can’t do anything ourselves because it’s a district heating system.”
The heating company expects the problems will not be resolved until tomorrow morning and will continue to work through the night. Vulnerable target groups are invited to report on the website. For example, mobile heaters are available for them.
