Russia launched a missile attack on Kharkiv city in northeastern Ukraine. Three houses caught fire. Two people were injured. Local officials said the incident took place in the early hours of Friday (May 10). British news agency Reuters reported this news.
Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine. It is located just 30 km from the Russian border. The city has been heavily damaged by increased Russian airstrikes in recent months.
Governor Oleh Sinihubov wrote on the Telegram messaging app that two people, including an 11-year-old child, were sickened by the sound of the attack.
The city’s mayor, Ihar Terekhov, said an S-300 missile crashed in the city. 26 buildings were damaged. Among them, two buildings were completely destroyed.
A Reuters cameraman was at the scene. He found the residential building on fire in the early hours of the morning. He said that after the attack, firemen rushed to put out the fire.
In a televised broadcast, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Ilya Yevlash said Russia had fired two S-300/S-400 missiles into the region overnight. However, it is not clear where the second missile hit.
