2.3 million working hours daily by Austria’s NPOs and their volunteers – 2024-07-19 02:38:48

Statistics Austria’s NPO satellite account provides, for the first time, comprehensive insight into the economic performance of non-profit organisations.

Vienna (OTS) – Whether in the social and health sector, in animal and climate protection or in the promotion of education, sport and culture, Austria’s non-profit organizations and their volunteers are an indispensable pillar of society. In order to be able to adequately record their services, Statistics Austria has set up a satellite account for the non-profit sector on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs, which makes economic data and figures for the third sector accessible for the first time. The results presented today for the reporting years 2018-2021 underline the supporting role of the non-profit sector for society as a whole:
3.8 million volunteers in this country put in 470 million unpaid hours of work per year. Employees in non-profit organizations also put in around 370 million paid hours of work. According to the report, this results in a total value added of 22 billion euros for Austria. As employers, clubs and organizations are responsible for almost 6% of all employment relationships in the country.
