A man on TikTok shared that a rare 1933 coin had sold for £140,000. On his @CoinCollectingWizard account, he posted an auctioneer’s comments about the coin he had recently found.
The man said: “This is part of my private collection that was loaned to me. It’s great because it’s such an iconic coin; lots of visitors come to see it.”
He continued: “Usually these coins are put away in safes and never seen again. The last time it was sold was in 2016 for around £140,000.”
“The early coins have been sold for many years and we can predict that if they come back on the market they will sell for even higher prices.”
After the man finished speaking, the original TikTok post continued: “This is a 1933 pre-decimal penny from the UK. Make sure you check your grandparents’ old coin collection and note this date.”
“Of course I don’t have this coin, it’s a fake copy.” Finishing his impressive explanation, he asked: “Do you have this coin from 1933?”
“If you have it, you’re rich. There are other dates to consider, but none of them can match the insane value of the 1933 penny because only seven of them are known to exist.”
“If you find one, you are extremely lucky. If you found a 1933 penis, what would be the first thing you would do?”
The video, shared with the title “Holy grail: 1933 pre-decimal penny”, has received more than 1,120 likes and attracted hundreds of comments.
One curious user asked: “How many are known to exist?” To which another user replied: “Only 6.” Another added: “We had one about 10 years ago but it got lost.”
