A farmer named Ismail Hossain (47) in Kurigram’s Phulbari got 18 gourds from a gourd plant. Most of these are edible. An eager crowd is flocking to see such gourds in the kitchen of the residence.
Ismail Hossain is a resident of Kabirmamud Kadamertal area of Fulbari Sadar Union.
Farmer Ismail Hossain said that he bought a gourd seedling from Phulbari market 7-8 months ago. Then the seedling is planted in a bag filled with compost and soil. When the plant grows, the tip of the gourd is lifted with kitchen rice. At one stage, the gourd spread to the entire rice field. So far 10-15 gourds have been plucked and cooked from the tree.
15 days ago, he saw many small gourds together in a bud near the base of the tree. After counting, there are 18 gourds together. Most of the gourds are edible.
Zainal of Kabir Mamud village, who came to see the gourds, said, ‘I have never seen so many gourds together in one gourd plant before. It is very good to see the pumpkins today.’
Feroze and Ekramul Haque of the same area said, “This is the first time in my life that I have seen 18 gourds caught together in one pot.” Everything is possible by God’s grace.
Phulbari Upazila Agriculture Officer Nilufa Yachmin said, I heard the news of catching 18 gourds together in one pot. I saw the picture too. This is due to genetic problems. This is not unusual. But it is very good for the farmer.
