3 teachers and 10 students fell ill after drinking tubewell water of Ramkantpur Government Primary School in Saltha Upazila of Faridpur. Among them, three students have been admitted to hospital.
This incident happened on Sunday (April 28) around 12 noon. Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) visited the spot after receiving the news. However, the upazila health department claims that they fell ill not because of drinking water, but because of the intense heat.
Assistant teacher of the school who fell ill. Rabiul Islam said that the school was closed for a long time. The head teacher is also on maternity leave. I come to the school in the morning and take the students with me first to clean the garbage accumulated in the class room and the school grounds. After some time, after drinking cold water from the tubewell of the school, if you feel thirsty in intense heat, vomiting starts. At one point I got sick. Later taken to Saltha Upazila Health Complex.
The other two teachers who are sick are assistant teachers of the school, Shukla Rani Shil and Rebecca Akhter.
The students are, Nahid (9), Naima (8), Sabiha (9), Ramisa (8), Md. Hasan (9), Shaheen Hossain (9), Lamia (10), Pius (10), Sumna Akhter (11), Limon (10). Their house is in Ramkantpur village.
Among them, Ramisa (8) was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur as her condition worsened.
Saltha Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abdul Momin said that no poisoning was found in the tubewell water. It is believed that the teachers and students have fallen ill in the heat. Two of the patients are undergoing treatment here. First aid was given to the rest. But everyone is safe.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saltha Police Station Faizur Rahman said that the incident site has been inspected. When the doctor was contacted later, he said that no signs of poisoning were found in the water.
In this regard, Saltha Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) said. Anichur Rahman Bali said, now everyone is fairly healthy. Hospital authorities said they did not find any signs of poisoning. This can happen due to heat. Even then the tubewell water will be tested.
