13 people died when the roof of the skateboarding rink collapsed

The tragedy occurred when a storm swept through the city of Bahia Blanca, causing the roof of a skateboard arena to collapse while a competition was taking place there.

On December 16, a powerful storm killed at least 13 people in the Argentine port city of Bahia Blanca when the roof of a sports club collapsed, authorities said. Part of the building’s grandstand and large screen also collapsed.

According to sources from the mayor’s office, heavy rain and wind hit Bahia Blanca, causing the roof of a facility where an ice skating competition was taking place to be blown off.

“Unfortunately, emergency services have confirmed that 13 people in the Bahiense del Norte club have died,” the city government said in a statement, adding that rescuers were working to rescue those still trapped under the rubble.

Winds of more than 140 kilometers (87 miles) per hour were recorded in the city, leaving many places without power.
