The national team is preparing to take part in the pre-qualification of Afrobasket Men 2025. Nono Ravonimbola and his summoned players began preparation yesterday.
It was at the Vontovorona Gymnasium that work started yesterday, Sunday January 7, until the end of the prequalification. The grouping of Ankoay men, preparation for the prequalification of Afrobasket 2025 will see the participation of 12 local players while awaiting the arrival of the two expatriate players. For nine days, the Ankoay will train every day in a blocked training regime at the Vontovorona sports complex. The duo Jeannot Ravonimbola and Ndranto Rakotonanahary, having led the Ankoay to the coronation during the Island Games, are leading this preparation along with other members of the technical staff. The two players playing in France will join their teammates next week. “ Kiady Razanamahenina joins the team on January 13 and Rija Lahontan arrives on January 14 », said Pascal Rasaony, communications manager within the Malagasy basketball federation. The two expatriate players, namely Kiady (Lyonso) and Rija (PSB) have already competed in the qualifications for Afrobasket 2023. The prequalification will take place at the Mahamasina Sports Palace from January 16 to 19, 2024. For now according to information communicated by the FMBB, Madagascar and Djibouti are the two known selections pending confirmation from the representatives of Zone 5. The objective for the Ankoay at home is to validate the ticket to join group D of the qualification alongside the Coast of Ivory, Egypt, the Central African Republic. The first qualifying window for groups B, E and D takes place from February 19 to 27.
