JAKARTA – The National Police confirmed that as many as 1,047 students were victims of the crime of human trafficking (TPPO) with internship or ferry job mode in Germany has returned to Indonesia.

“Currently, all the victims need to know that they are already in Indonesia, because the contract for this internship program expires in December 2023,” said Karo Penmas, National Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Pol Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko at National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Friday (22/3/2024 ).

Trunoyudo explained that the disclosure of this case was the result of collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Germany and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). “In the steps that need to be taken to reveal this incident, of course we will collaborate with stakeholders,” he said.

Previously, the Director of General Crimes (Dirtipidum) at Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro said that the disclosure of this case began with an information report from the Indonesian Embassy in Germany, that there were four students who came to the Indonesian Embassy because they were taking part in an internship program in Germany.

“After conducting an in-depth investigation, the results obtained from the Indonesian Embassy showed that this program was run by 33 universities in Indonesia, with a total of 1,047 students departing, divided into 3 employment agencies in Germany,” said Djuhandhani, Tuesday, March 19 2024.

Djuhandhani explained that the students received socialization from PT. CVGEN and PT. SHB, and a fee is charged at the time of registration.

“PT. SHB collaborates with universities as outlined in the MoU. In the MoU there is a statement stating that the internship job is included in the Independent Campus Learning Program (MBKM) and promises that the internship program can be converted into 20 credits,” he said.

However, the Directorate General for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers at the Ministry of Manpower revealed that PT SHB was not registered as a P3MI (Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Company) in their data base.
