Dry eyes are one of the main causes of watery eyes along with allergies, corneal infections, poor blinking habits, contact lenses, and certain medications. Constantly watery eyes can make makeup easy to smudge, reduce self-confidence, and require multiple touch-ups throughout the day.
Here are some makeup tips that can help you look beautiful even if your eyes often water.
1. Use Eye Drops Before Makeup
If your eyes feel dry or irritated before you start applying makeup, this will likely be made worse during makeup application and will almost certainly lead to watery eyes.
To reduce damage or watery eyes, use eye drops before applying makeup to reduce discomfort and wash away potential irritants. Wait a few minutes for the eye drops to work before moving on to the makeup step.
2. Start Makeup from the Eyes
Start your makeup by doing your eyes first. That way, if (and when) your eyes start to water, they won’t ruin the rest of your base makeup.
3. Use Prime and Prepare Your Eyes Well
Proper preparation is essential to minimizing the damage caused by watery eyes. Tears contain salts that can dry out the under-eye area. This can be countered by using an under-eye moisturizer to help hydrate the area and prolong the durability of your makeup.
For the eyelids, apply a primer to create a base for your makeup that is more waterproof. Then, apply concealer to your eyelids.
4. Use Vaseline
If your eyes water during the eye makeup application process, use a cotton ball to apply a small amount of Vaseline near the watery area.
By applying Vaseline (or another petroleum-based product) as close to the eyes as possible, it will create a physical barrier that prevents tears from dripping down your face and ruining your makeup.
5. Choose Hypoallergenic Makeup Products
Watery eyes can be caused by an allergic reaction to certain ingredients in makeup products, as well as certain dyes or fragrances that can be very irritating to sensitive eyes. To combat this possibility, choose hypoallergenic eye makeup products.
6. Avoid Applying Waterline to the Lower Lash Area
While lining the waterline is a great way to add depth and intensity to your makeup, it’s unfortunately not great for watery eyes.
The waterline is where the oil glands that regulate eye lubrication are located. Applying makeup in this area can clog these glands, making your eyes drier and more likely to water. Also, avoid makeup along the lower lash line, as watery eyes can cause smudges in this area.
7. Always Have Tissues Ready
While it may sound intuitive, remember to always have tissues handy when applying makeup. That way, when the tears do come, you’ll be ready to deal with them and keep your makeup intact.
8. Avoid Powder Under the Eyes
Salty tears can dry out the under-eye area, and powder will only make matters worse. Not only will powder accentuate fine lines and wrinkles, but it can also absorb the tears that run down your face, creating tear streaks in your makeup. Instead, use a setting spray under your eyes. That way, the tears will sit on top of your makeup rather than being absorbed.
9. Choose eyelash glue that is latex-free
If wearing false lashes is a big part of your makeup routine, consider using an eyelash glue that uses latex-free ingredients. Latex can be very irritating near the eyes, even in the absence of allergies or eye sensitivities. By avoiding this ingredient altogether, you can help minimize watery eyes.
10. Cleanse Makeup Completely at Night
The best way to minimize makeup damage from watery eyes is to minimize the chances of watery eyes in the first place. Therefore, it is important to thoroughly remove all eye makeup at night by cleansing the base of your lashes and eyelids every night,
You can prevent the glands from clogging or your eyes from becoming dry and irritated. Try using a special eye makeup remover on a cotton pad, as it can be difficult to reach the creases of your eyes with just soap and water. MG/Muflihati Chairunnisa
