10 people have been arrested in the case of attack and vandalism on police in Dinajpur’s Bochaganj.
On Tuesday (April 30) morning, the Bochaganj Thana Police handed them over to the court and the judge sent them to jail.
Earlier, Deputy Inspector (SI) of Bochaganj police station Hasinur Rahman named 12 people and filed a case against 72 people on Monday night (April 29).
The arrested are Anik Roy (20) of Kaharol Upazila, Mahesh Roy (21) of Sadar Upazila, Likhan Roy (30) of Bochaganj Upazila, Apan Roy (25), Bilas Chandra Roy (60), Raj Kumar (56), Jagdis Roy (25). , Laxman Chandra Roy (30), Mangalu Roy (45) and Suryadev 20.
According to the details of the case, Bochaganj Thana Police called 999 to inform that two men of Kaharol Upazila attempted to rape a school teacher of Bochaganj Upazila at Tinpukur of Dabor Union No. 1 of Kaharol Upazila at 9 am on April 29.
In this incident, the local residents arrested the father of an accused named Ziarul Islam of Chamduari village. Later, it is said that he was detained at Isania Youth Organization Club near Isania SC High School in Bochaganj Upazila of Kaharol Police Station.
When the police arrived and wanted to take Ziarul Islam into custody with the help of the chairman, members and village police, the accused ganged up and attacked the police. Later, the police pickup with the driver was vandalized and thrown into the nearby pond. A few policemen including the pickup driver were injured.
Later, the injured were rescued with the help of additional police. When the condition worsened, the driver Mostasin Islam Tuhin was sent to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bochaganj police station Abu Bakar Siddique Russell told Jago News that when 10 people were arrested and sent to court, the judge did not grant them bail and sent them to jail.
He further said that the police will not harass any innocent person. However, those who investigate the incident and watch the video footage will be brought under the law.
