A total of 1.5 million baby carp were released into 16 different lakes and ponds in Kayseri.
Within the scope of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s ‘Fishing of Water Resources’ project, 1.5 million young carp fish raised in Adana were brought to Kayseri under suitable conditions. 800 thousand of the fish were released into the Yamula Dam and 700 thousand were released into 15 different lakes and ponds in the city.
Speaking at the event where fish were released into the water at the Yamula Dam, Kayseri Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Bülent Saklav said, “Today, within the scope of our ministry’s project, we will bring 1.5 million fish to our 16 lakes and ponds. Today, we will also bring juvenile fish to the water at the Yamula Dam. This is very important for sustainable fishing. Within the scope of our ministry’s project, the project is very important for both amateur hunting and sustainable fishing in inland waters. Fishing and aquaculture are very important in Kayseri. We meet 35 percent of juvenile trout production. We produce and export salmon. Our goal is to take fishing much further in Kayseri and expand our work here, God willing.”
Kocasinan Mayor Ahmet Çolakbayrakdar said, “We left 800 thousand carp fish in the dam. These 800 thousand carp fish did not grow within 1-2 months. The growth period of the fish was over 1 year. Raising the fish was not an easy process either. Raising young fish also takes a serious amount of time. It is extremely valuable that more than half of the fish coming to Kayseri is used in Yamula. However, there is something more valuable that we are a city that produces and exports fish in an inland sea. This is an extremely valuable aspect of the job. However, we need to remind a few things about making the dam livable with the fish in it, and enabling our brothers and sisters who are passionate about angling to fish here. “We need to comply with all the rules for hunting. Not catching fish below a certain size is extremely important for the increase and continuation of the fish population in the dam,” he said. – KAYSERİ
