News from Angola – Three-time national champion Petro de Luanda officially opened the Catetão workshops to the press today (Monday) to present the players and technical team that make up the squad for the new “2024-2025” season.
On the occasion, Portuguese coach Ricardo Cheu did not promise to win the African Champions League, but said he was aware of the responsibilities and main objectives of the team.
The “tricolor” coach said that the team will fight to win the internal competitions, starting with the National Super Cup scheduled for Saturday (31st of this month) against Bravos do Maquis, at the Tundavala Stadium, the Girabola, as well as the Angola Cup.
He stated that he aims to achieve success at an international level, as Petro has been increasingly standing out in African competitions. We want to make our presence felt and add something to the club. Of course, we will compete against great teams, the best in Africa, but we want to be among them. We will always approach the Champions League with the possibility of winning, with the constant desire to win titles. That is our mission here. We can promise that we will try everything to be one of them”, he said.
In turn, right-back António da Silva “Hossi”, who left 1º de Agosto to reinforce the “oil workers”, commented on the difficult decision to leave the club.
The defender stated that the choice was made together with his family, ensuring that there was no external pressure.
“It wasn’t easy to leave 1° de Agosto, but I had to make this decision with my family. I’m calm, I haven’t received any threats because of this transfer,” he explained.
