According to BBC news, Jalujhani has been removed from the post of army chief through a presidential decree.
It is the biggest reshuffle of the country’s military leadership since Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
Zelensky said the high command needed to be renewed and General Zaluzhny could still be on the team. A new management team will lead the Armed Forces of Ukraine from today.
The Ukrainian president said he and Zaluzhny openly discussed the need for changes in the army. He thanked the general for protecting Ukraine from Russian attacks.
After that, the Ukrainian President appointed Colonel General Oleksandr Sirsky as the new army chief. In this regard, Zelensky said, the new army chief has experience of successful defense in Kiev and successful offensive operations in Kharkiv.
General Sirsky led the Ukrainian resistance in the capital, Kiev, at the start of the Russian offensive in 2022. He was also the mastermind behind Ukraine’s successful counter-offensive in Kharkiv.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov thanked General Zaluzhny. He said that during the big war with Russia, General Valery Zaluzhny performed the difficult task of leading the army of Ukraine. But there is not always one. War changes and demands change. The wars of 2022, 2023 and 2024 are three different realities. 2024 will bring new changes, for which we must be ready. New approaches, new strategies are needed.
He also wrote, today, a decision was made on the need to change the leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. I am sincerely grateful for the achievements and success of General Jalujni.
