LVM urges motorists to pay particular attention when driving on forest roads. In several sections of the highway the car tracks are covered by ice and water.

“Currently, the situation on forest roads in all LVM regions is similar: driving conditions are particularly difficult. To improve driving conditions, the roads are usually sprinkled or plowed, but at this time, when the snow melts quickly and it rains, these works are ineffective,” says Buņkis.

At the same time, LVM notes that due to the formation of ice, wet road surface and mud, drivers of trucks transporting timber use snow chains for safer driving on forest roads, which helps to drive on frozen ice or a layer of fallen snow.

“Driving conditions also have a significant impact on the driving speed of the driver, so nowadays the total volume delivered daily is much lower, because safety comes first and drivers drive more carefully,” says Ivars Korsaks , Head of Delivery of Production and Delivery Department of LVM Koksne.

The company adds that the network of forest roads created by LVM ensures that even in changing weather conditions there are warehouses that the drivers of timber transporters can access, ensuring deliveries to customers, so achieving delivery volumes is currently not in danger.

As already reported, in 2022 LVM’s turnover was 566.612 million euros, which is 39.8% more than the previous year, but the company’s profit increased by 2.2 times and was 242.193 million euros.

LVM manages state forest lands. The sole owner of LVM is the State, while the shareholder is the Ministry of Agriculture.
