Matías and Ornella, 9 and 11 years old respectively, have not yet received the Covid-19 vaccine. Their father, a prominent businessman, believes that children do not get sick and, in general, do not suffer from respiratory diseases. Despite registered data of the Covid-19 pandemic, resistance to vaccination persists among some sectors of society. Deaths of babies, adults and the elderly are not sufficient arguments for this father, named David, to inoculate his children with the vaccine.

According to the latest data published by the government of the Mexican Republic, 79% of the adult population has at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while it is in the young sector where vaccines are lagging behind.

The state delegation of IMSS (Mexican Institute of Social Security) is conducting a vaccination day against COVID-19, where first and second doses of the Pfizer BioNTech brand will be administered for children aged 5 to 11 years old.

The vaccination day will take place in the Family Medicine Units (UMF) No. 7, 45, 47, 49 and 51, as well as in Zone General Hospitals (HGZ) No. 1 and 2 in the state capital; Carried out in UMF No. 5 of Soledad de Graciano Sánchez and No. 3 of Ciudad Valles. In addition, it will also be available in itinerant stalls in shopping malls and public squares, and Rural Medical Units of the Altiplano and Huasteca Zone. The vaccine will be administered Monday to Friday from 08:00 a.m. to 07:00 p.m.

Parents only need to present their children’s Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) for the first dose, and proof of application of the first dose and CURP for the second.

Everyone visiting a vaccination unit must follow strict sanitary measures such as wearing a mask, washing hands frequently, using 70% alcohol gel, keeping a safe distance, avoiding touching the face, and refraining from kissing or shaking hands.
