Tom Holland Takes Temporary Hiatus from Acting
Holland Takes a Break from Acting
Tom Holland, the British actor famous for his role as Spiderman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has announced a temporary retirement from acting. Following his latest project, Apple TV’s “The Crowded Room,” in which Holland starred and produced the series, he felt exhausted. It’s been an experience that’s been both difficult and rewarding, but he’s decided to take a break from the performance.
The Pressure of Being a Producer
Working as the producer of the psychological thriller “The Crowded Room” was a life-changing experience filled with pressure. Holland recounts to Extra that, “Being a producer dealing with the kind of everyday problems that come with any film set added extra pressure…I really enjoyed it, but then again, the show broke me.”
Holland’s Struggle with Detachment
Holland admits to having a difficult time detaching himself from his character, Danny Sullivan. He even considered shaving his head to make a clear break from the character, but he didn’t follow through. “I was seeing myself in him, but in my personal life… I remember having a little meltdown at home and thinking, ‘I’m going to shave my head. I need to shave my head because I need to get rid of this character.’ And, obviously, we were in the middle of filming, so I decided against it… It was unlike anything I had ever experienced before,” Holland said.
About “The Crowded Room”
“The Crowded Room” is a suspenseful drama set in New York in the summer of 1979. The series stars American actresses Amanda Seyfried and Emmy Rossum. The story follows the investigation of Danny Sullivan’s (Holland) arrest for a shocking crime, with Rya Goodwin (Seyfried) leading the case. The series tells the story of Danny’s mysterious past through a series of interviews.
The first official trailer revealed defining moments from Danny’s past and one particular night that changed his life. Fans see his arrest, secret drawings of him ending up in a chimney, and how a burly man prevented a group of young men from beating him up. These scenes provide background to a childhood memory that Danny tries to decipher.
“The Crowded Room” is a collaboration between Apple Studios and New Regency, with Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo directing several episodes and producing the series.
