Last Wednesday, a police operation in the red zones of insecurity in Toamasina led to the neutralization of two bandits by the UIR police, while another was arrested alive. The incident took place in the Ankirihiry district, where the three criminals were spotted planning their misdeeds during a patrol.
At the sight of the police, the criminals tried to flee, ignoring the warnings. The police, forced to use their weapons, shot dead two of the bandits on the spot. These criminals were known for sowing terror in various neighborhoods of Toamasina, generating several complaints against them.

In another incident in Ambohijanaka, a bandit succumbed to his injuries around 2am yesterday. Apprehended by the fokonolona after stealing an ox, the bandit was beaten by the local community. Alerted by the mayor, the police rushed to the scene. Following the on-site investigation, the bandit revealed the hiding place of his accomplices. The gendarmes and fokonolona decided to escort him to their location. However, during the nighttime journey, the bandit attempted to escape, exploiting the darkness. The police, forced to shoot to stop him, unfortunately caused his death.
According to information from the gendarmerie, this bandit and his acolytes were probably responsible for the armed attacks in different fokontany in the commune of Ambohijanaka. The same night, a new armed attack was reported in Tsilazaina, near Angomasina. A thorough investigation was launched to clarify the circumstances of this incident and identify other potential accomplices.
Despite these challenges, law enforcement’s determined actions reflect significant success in public safety, underscoring their commitment to confronting crime in the region.
