The holiday dinner of the IDF soldiers: entrecote, salmon and puffs like p

In the IDF, this year, increased forces were also held at the General Staff Supply Center (MRAS) in preparation for Passover, to provide lavish holiday meals to all soldiers serving in the home and front, and to adapt them to combatants in field conditions.

The meals for the soldiers were prepared from, among other things, 108 tons of matzoh, 84 tons of beef, 130 tons of kosher schnitzel for Pesach, 24 tons of kharosat and 450,000 units of personal desserts.

“We have increased the procurement significantly compared to previous years,” explains the head of the food distribution department at the MRS, Lt. Col. Ortel Gabriel-Adri, “in the range of 200%-500% in a variety of foods, this is to respond to the need.”

The MRS was required to find a suitable solution for the forces that are going to celebrate this year’s Seder night at outposts on the Lebanese border, or during ground maneuvers in the Gaza Strip.

In order to do this, the manipulative fighters will receive “mitzvah dishes”, which contain all the signs of the holiday – horusot, horseradish, pickles, matzoh, wine and, of course, the Passover Haggadah.

On the eve of the holiday, the soldiers will receive five packets of hot food for the Seder night meal. This is in addition to designated battle rations containing products that are kosher for Passover, and a box of “Knights’ Bread” in its training version, which will be provided to them throughout the holiday.

Soldiers serving in outposts, in frontline defense missions or in units without a kitchen, will receive catering reinforcements from outside companies, in addition to an order kit that will contain all the signs of the holiday and other festive extras, including drinks and desserts.

And as for the servants in general at the IDF bases, they will make the Passover order around the table with all the signs of the holiday, and with new dishes that they will try to make to their personal taste, such as pieces of entrecote, salmon, and for dessert – kosher puffs for Passover. The response in the different sectors – North, South and Central – will be the same.

In the food branch and the food technology branch of the RAF, they are working, among other things, to build an alternative for soldiers who are sensitive to gluten. The basic answer of quintessence, and we enriched them with a variety of choppers and treats.”

“Beyond the meals that will be provided by the kitchens, for the first time the Haras will operate 5 food trucks on Passover,” boasts the head of the supply administration at the Logistics Corps, Lt. Col. Avi Shaul. “Another cooperation that is on the agenda with one of the largest hamburger chains in the country, will make it possible to provide the soldiers with huge quantities of kosher hamburgers for Passover or even schnitzel in kosher challah for Passover during the holiday.”

The new solutions, he emphasizes, are the ones that enable the necessary flexibility during the war: “The food truck is ideal for units without a kitchen or changes in the order of forces. Even if a battalion suddenly leaves Gaza the day before the holiday and no meal was planned for it – we can bring a food truck until to his”.

“The desire that drives us is that the picture that every soldier and woman will send to their parents from the holiday table at the base will make them happy,” Lt. Col. Gabriel-Adri concludes, “and that they will feel that in the army they eat well, almost like at home.”
